Application: River Water Treatment
Water Challenges: The ability of UF systems to remove bacteria and most viruses makes the technology an ideal river water treatment solution. The membrane provides an absolute barrier, protecting the public from pathogens. Furthermore, disinfection requirements are greatly reduced as dosing rates of chlorine, ultraviolet is much lower since there is essentially no suspended solids left in the filtered water. Note turbid water allows for pathogens to hide, as such, higher dosing rates are required to ensure proper disinfection. Another great application for UF is RO pre-treatment, again the membrane essentially removes 100% of suspended solids; this is critical as RO membranes are designed to remove only dissolved solids. Colloidal fouling is a large problem with RO systems and leads to irreversible damage and shortened membrane life. In demanding pre-treatment situations, UF membranes can replace clarifiers and multi-media filters as the membrane can handle up to 100 ppm total suspended solids; a conventional sand filter would be quickly overloaded, requiring clarification prior to sand filtration. Furthermore, the latter is dependent on settling rates and chemical addition. UF filters provide a consistent and guaranteed product water from river water sources.
Applied Solution: Pure Aqua manufactured and supplied 225 units of Ultrafiltration systems to a major company in Iraq complete with pre and post-treatment using advanced microprocessor control panel. Our UF systems are given water from local rivers due to their high concentration in organic substances and suspended solids. The major components consisted of a Y strainer, sediment filter, media filter, ultrafiltration, and UV sterilization.
