Reverse Osmosis & Water Treatment in South Korea

South Korea is a nation of nearly 51.3 million people in eastern Asia, on the southern half of the Korean Peninsula bordering the Sea of Japan (East Sea) and the Yellow Sea (West Sea)
Its major environmental issues include:
• Air pollution in large cities
• Acid rain
• Water pollution from the discharge of sewage and industrial effluents

There are occasional typhoons which bring high winds and floods. Low-level seismic activity is common in southwest of the country.
Total Renewable Water Resources: 69.7 cu km (1999)
Freshwater Withdrawal:  18.59 cu km/yr  (36% domestic, 16% industrial, 48% agricultural)
Per Capita Freshwater Withdrawal: 389 cu m/yr (2000)

The World Bank reports that at least 80 countries have water shortages and 2 billion people lack access to clean water. More disturbingly, the World Health Organization has reported that 1 billion people lack enough water to simply meet their basic needs, unfortunately in many countries water is scarce or contaminated.

South Korea's main water resources are:

  • Surface water “is water from river, lake or fresh water wetland, which can be treated using different methods, such as Ultrafiltration Systems, Media Water Filters, Brackish Water RO.

  • Desalination can be used for water from ocean, or sea source, which can be treated using Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Systems; Desalination Systems

  • Ground Water or brackish water is from water located in the pore space of soil and rock “Borehole well”, which can be treated using Reverse Osmosis Systems, Media Water Filters, Chemical Dosing, UV Sterilizers.

  • Government water supply, which could have high level of hardness or high level of chlorine, can be treated with Water Softeners, Media Water Filters

Water Treatment in South Korea
To combat the disparity between its water supplies and population growth, South Korea has looked for alternative measures to increase its distribution of water. South Korea’s water issues stem from rising contamination of its natural water from industrial applications, which has harmed its own water security. The alternative measures considered are methods that we in Pure Aqua supply throughout the world, such as:

  • Seawater reverse osmosis systems

  • Wastewater treatment systems
