Anthracite is a type of coal that evaporates fast and also claims a larger quantity of fixed carbon than any other type of coal. It is utilized as a filter medium to take out lighter weight turbidity and the additional silica that exists in water. Anthracite has a low bulk density which promotes enormous savings on backwash.

Silica Sand is a lime-free and chemically inert type of sand known widely around the world. Silica sand or silicon dioxide (SiO2) is utilized as a filtration bed for many particulates and comes graded in several ranges depending on practical size and application.

Gravel promotes good flow and an equal distribution in support beds due to its highly spherical shape. Gravel claims a decreased amount of soluble impurities and comes graded in three types of layers: coarse, medium, and fine. Multi-Media Filters are designed to decrease or eliminate turbidity and suspended solids from well water, surface water, or seawater, and can also be utilized for some applications of wastewater. To eliminate turbidity and suspended solids to lower than 30 microns, filters with either two or three layers of filtration media are required. These powerful filters can take out turbidity and suspended solids as low as 10 microns if they were sized and designed properly. Multi-Media Filters are designed to treat certain types of waters for drinking, irrigation, cooling, and swimming.

Water Challenges: Stormwater has potential of being a great source of freshwater after being treated for the contaminants that usually are present. Pollution occurs in stormwater due to run-off along hard surfaces such as roads, parking lots, buildings, etc. The run-off proceeds to absorb and accumulate large amounts of minerals, particles, and sediments that produce unwanted impurities in the water, such as hardness. Hard water is created from dissolved minerals such as magnesium and calcium in water that are picked up from the run-off. As a result, water treatment solutions like multi-media filtration are depended upon to eliminate hardness creating minerals and other impurities from water.
