Solar powered UF systems consist of diverse membrane filtrations where hydrostatic pressure forces solvents against a partially porous membrane. They reject large sized suspended particulates and solids while water molecules and solutes with a smaller molecular weight are permitted to pass through the membrane. Industry and research have utilized this separation process for purifying and concentrating protein solutions. Solar powered ultrafiltration resembles microfiltration, nanofiltration or gas separation, except there’s a difference in the molecule sizes it rejects. 

These systems have met critical discharge criteria by eliminating the need for clarifiers and multi-media filters. They utilize membranes that can be submerged, back-flushable, and air scoured. Spiral wound UF/MF membranes deliver outstanding performance for the clarification of both process and waste water.
