Two Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Systems where manufactured and supplied to a major company in Angola. From its initial start-up, the system has been running properly with minimal trouble-shooting. Industrial seawater reverse osmosis systems are mainly designed for the removal of enormous amounts of salt and other impurities from highly inconsumable water sources like the sea. These systems make use of a popular process known as “reverse osmosis” to help in seawater purification. The job of reverse osmosis is to defeat the osmotic pressure of a natural process called “osmosis”.

THe objective of osmosis is to gain an equal amount of saline concentration on both sides. To stop this natural process, reverse osmosis pushes osmosis in the opposite direction by using a high pressure pump that adds extreme pressure to the highly concentrated saline side of the membrane. The pressure pushes water molecules through the small pores of the membrane while rejecting salts and other impurities from flowing through. Clean, potable water successfully comes out on the permeate side while salt and other impurities are dumped into a drain from the concentrate side.

Water Challenges: Southwest Africa is one of the most water-scarce regions in the world, with countries such as Angola only being able to provide clean drinking water to half of its population. Seawater has become a promising opportunity to supply greater quantities of freshwater to the masses through the use of desalination (reverse osmosis). Seawater reverse osmosis is vital in removing the enormously high amounts of salt in seawater in order to produce clean and consumable drinking water. Without it, then seawater will be left unable to be ingested due to it being highly toxic, and capable of dehydrating a human until death when consumed in large portions.

Applied Solution: Two SWRO systems have been manufactured for a company in Southwest Africa. One of the SWRO systems are designed to produce 5,600 GPD, SW-5.6K-604 and the other produces 3,000 GPD, SW-3.0K-304. These models were selected from the SWC Series. Included with each system as pretreatment, there is media filtration and antiscalant dosing.
