Since the initial startup, machine has been operating accordingly with minimal troubleshooting. A commercial BWRO machine is designed and built to remove salts, minerals, and other impurities from brackish water. Brackish water is moderately salty water found in river openings or wells that are dug near the ocean. It comes across between seawater and fresh water. It has a higher salt content than fresh water but not as much as sea or ocean water. Joining salty and fresh water produces moderate salty water, which isn’t recommended for consumption. To purify brackish water, a commercial BWRO machine utilizes a technology called “reverse osmosis”.

Reverse osmosis is employed with taking out salt, minerals,  and most other contaminants found in water by applying excessive pressure to the highly concentrated solute solution allowing only water molecules to pass through a partially porous membrane and into the lower concentrated solution. Salts, minerals, and other contaminants are rejected and discharged into the brine stream then into the drain. The final result is purified water coming out on the lower end of the membrane.  For this reason, reverse osmosis is employed to be used in areas where drinking water contains salts or contaminants which are difficult to be removed by other technologies.

Water Challenges: Well water that is left untreated generally contains higher than ideal amounts of chloride levels, total dissolved solids (TDS), and other unwanted features such as odor, bad taste, etc. While the water is left in this state, it is unable to be used for drinking since the quality of the water is far too poor to allow humans to consume without expecting serious risks to their health. It then becomes necessary to put the untreated water into a reverse osmosis system in order to remove these impurities from the water before being ready to consume. This application saw the shipping of a commercial brackish water reverse osmosis system to Peru for the purposes of converting well water into safe drinking water.

Applied Solution: Pure Aqua, Inc. designed and manufactured a commercial reverse osmosis machine to a major company in Peru to remove chloride, TDS, and odor from well water. The machine came equipped with chemical dosing systems and was designed to produce 43,000 GPD at a feed water TDS of a maximum 3,000 ppm, it was selected from our RO-400 series and was controlled by a microprocessor control panel.
