Water Challenges: Treated sewage effluent (TSE) has become a more widely used option for the production of freshwater for industrial, commercial, and domestic use. As natural water sources continue to decline in availability, conserving water supplies has been made possible through the reuse of TSE. However, TSE requires large-scale testing before it is ready to be reused. Pilot testing with reverse osmosis skids are used to determine the conditions of treated sewage effluent for full-scale implementation. If the TSE passes then it is acceptable to be reused.

Applied Solution: Reverse osmosis pilot skid was supplied to the Los Angeles County Sanitation District in CA, USA. The product water capacity was 35,000 GPD. It was selected from our RO-300 series and came complete with chemical dosing systems. It was controlled by an advanced PLC. Since its initial startup, the machine has been functioning smoothly with minimal trouble-shooting. RO machines lend themselves to removing large quantities of salt and most other impurities found in water. They are employed in regions where consumable water is salty and contains dissolved minerals which can be challenging to be taken out by any other method. These machines take use of the process of reverse osmosis to purify salty water. A high pressure pump is used to force water molecules through a partially-porous membrane leaving salt and other impurities behind. Purified water is collected from the permeate side of the membrane, while salt and the other impurities are thrown down the drain from the concentrate side. The average industrial RO machine includes multimedia and activated carbon filters, a water softener with brine tank, and a UV sterilizer post-treatment.
